Why Bentley is Popular in Ireland

Bentley has a strong presence in the Irish luxury car market. The Continental GT and Bentayga get imported regularly, and buyers are drawn to the brand's combination of British craftsmanship and powerful performance. For anyone considering an import, VRT is calculated on the Irish OMSP — not the overseas price — so the CO2 emissions figure is critical to the final cost, especially at the higher price points these cars command.

Bentley VRT Bands in Ireland

Irish VRT works on a CO2 percentage system — lower emissions mean a lower rate. The 2026 bands run from 7% at the cleanest end up to 41% for the highest emitters. Here's the full breakdown: 0-50g/km is 7%, 51-80g/km is 9%, 81-85g/km is 9.75%, 86-90g/km is 10.5%, 91-95g/km is 11.25%, 96-100g/km is 12%, 101-105g/km is 12.75%, 106-110g/km is 13.5%, 111-115g/km is 15.25%, 116-120g/km is 16%, 121-125g/km is 16.75%, 126-130g/km is 17.5%, 131-135g/km is 19.25%, 136-140g/km is 20%, 141-145g/km is 21.5%, 146-150g/km is 25%, 151-155g/km is 27.5%, 156-170g/km is 30%, 171-190g/km is 35%, and anything at 191g/km or above hits the maximum 41%.

Fully electric Bentley models qualify for up to €5,000 VRT relief, tapering to zero at €50,000 OMSP. Note that plug-in hybrid relief ended on 31 December 2021 and is no longer available.

For the petrol and diesel models in Bentley's lineup, CO2 emissions tend to be at the higher end given the grand tourer nature of most models. This means most imports land in the higher VRT bands — something to factor in when you're working out the total cost.

Importing a Bentley to Ireland

Importing a Bentley from the UK or EU follows the standard Irish process: pay any applicable customs duty, hand over Irish VAT at 23%, then head to a Revenue VRT office with your registration document, proof of purchase, Certificate of Conformity, and NOx emissions data. Revenue sets the OMSP and applies the CO2-based VRT rate. The whole process typically takes two to four weeks.

From a purely VRT perspective, the lower-CO2 and electric models make the most sense. High-performance W12 variants and others with emissions over 190g/km sit in the top 41% band — on a high-value Bentley, that can be a enormous sum.

Bentley VRT FAQs

How is VRT calculated on a Bentley imported to Ireland?

It uses the same CO2-based system as all Irish imports. Revenue calculates the OMSP, applies age-related depreciation (10% at 1-2 years up to 50% over 5 years), then charges the CO2-band percentage rate. Electric Bentleys qualify for up to €5,000 VRT relief. Note: plug-in hybrid relief ended on 31 December 2021.

Which Bentley model has the lowest VRT?

Electric Bentley models get up to €5,000 VRT relief, so those are the cheapest from a VRT perspective. For petrol and diesel models, it depends entirely on the CO2 figure — always check the official WLTP number for the exact car.

Does importing a Bentley save money?

Importing can save versus Irish forecourt prices, but you must add VRT, any customs duty, and 23% VAT. Compare the total landed cost before committing.
